Building High Performance Teams

Picture
"In a team, the skills of the players are important, but the strength of the team depends more on how well the players combine" Meredith Belbin
Apple, Netflix and Google are all 40% more productive than other similar companies, yet they have the same percentage of star performers as other companies do. According to consultant Michael Mankins, the difference is that companies like Apple, select the most talented employees and place them together to work in the most crucial roles. Workplace teams that mix their star performers with those who are less talented, are far less productive.

Question:
How do you decide who goes on teams, and how does Apple's strategy compare with that of Jesus'?

Discipleship Priorities

“The key is not to prioritize what’s on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities” Stephen Covey
Tony Morgan, author of The Unstuck Church, says that healthy churches approach discipleship as a path and not a program. They prioritize their calendars around ministry that helps people take the next step forward. This week, I want us to examine the process of discipleship in our churches, and question whether we can make the pathway more clear.

Question:
What percentage of people in your church, know the next step in their discipleship journey, and what could you do to make the process more clear?

Training the Next Generation

“Leaders are like gardeners. As Leaders we are not only responsible for harvesting our own success, but for cultivating the success of the next generation” - Susan Collins
According to a 2017 report, Barna Group found that just 1 in 7 pastors of US congregations are under 40 years old. Even more significant, is the fact that 9 out of 10 millennials who had left churches, never had someone they could relate to as a mentor.

Question:
What is the most important thing you could do to improve the development of younger leaders in your church?
